When the Ground Shifts, Check Your Foundation
Markets rise and fall. Algorithms change overnight. Clients come and go. If your business is built only on strategy, trends, and hustle, every shift in the wind will shake you.
But there is another way to build — the way Jesus described at the end of the Sermon on the Mount. The wise builder dug deep and laid her foundation on the rock. When the rains came and the winds blew, her house stood. Not because the storm skipped her, but because her foundation held.
As Christian women in business, we have access to anchors the world doesn’t. Here are six I return to again and again — in my own ventures and with every woman I coach.

Anchor #1: Commit Your Work to the Lord
“Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.” — Proverbs 16:3
Before the business plan, before the launch date, before the logo — commit the work itself to God. This is not a decorative prayer at the start of a meeting. It is the daily practice of saying, “Lord, this business is Yours; I am its steward.” When the work belongs to Him, the pressure stops belonging to you. Decisions get clearer. The striving quiets. And strangely, the results often improve — because a surrendered plan has room for divine strategy.
Anchor #2: Seek Godly Counsel Before Big Moves
“Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.” — Proverbs 11:14
The lone-wolf entrepreneur is a myth, and a dangerous one. Before you sign, spend, hire, or pivot — bring the decision to God in prayer, and bring it to two or three wise people who will tell you the truth, not just what you want to hear. A coach, a mentor, a prayer partner. Isolation breeds bad decisions; counsel breeds confidence.
You don’t have to make big decisions alone. A free discovery call with Dr. Sheila R. Smith, PhD could be the counsel you’ve been praying for: https://click.sacredvoicerestoration.com/widget/booking/QZmTGuWzowAy0F20aTH6
Anchor #3: Honor the Sabbath Principle in Your Schedule
“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.” — Exodus 20:8
Hustle culture treats rest like laziness. Scripture treats rest like obedience. A business that requires you to work seven days a week to survive is a business with a broken model, not a devoted owner. Build rest into your week the way you build revenue into your plan — non-negotiable. You will make better decisions rested than you ever will exhausted. God built the rhythm; trust it.
Anchor #4: Give Generously, Even While Growing
“Give, and it shall be given unto you.” — Luke 6:38
It feels counterintuitive to give when you’re still building. Do it anyway. Give your expertise freely sometimes. Tithe from the business. Bless a client who can’t pay full price. Generosity is not the reward for success — it is one of the seeds of it. A generous business attracts generous clients, and a generous heart sleeps well at night regardless of the month’s numbers.

Anchor #5: Persevere When You Can’t See the Harvest
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” — Galatians 6:9
Every business has a middle — that long stretch after the excitement fades and before the fruit appears. Most people quit in the middle. Don’t. The farmer doesn’t dig up seeds to check on them; she waters, waits, and trusts the process she can’t see. Your due season is coming. Keep sowing, keep serving, keep showing up. Faint not.
Anchor #6: Pray Over Decisions Like They’re Board Meetings
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally.” — James 1:5
Treat prayer as your highest-level business meeting, because it is. Bring the pricing question. Bring the hiring decision. Bring the fear about next quarter. God is not only interested in your soul — He is interested in your stewardship. The women I know with the most peaceful businesses are not the ones with the best strategies. They are the ones with the most consistent prayer lives.
Build Deep, Stand Firm
The storms will come — to every business, every market, every woman. The question was never whether the wind would blow. The question is what you’re standing on when it does.
Dig deep. Lay each stone of your business on the Rock. Commit it, counsel it, rest it, give from it, persevere in it, pray over it. And when the shaking starts, you’ll discover what the wise builder discovered: the house stands, and so do you.
Build on the Rock with guidance from someone who’s weathered storms and stands firm. Book your free discovery call with Dr. Sheila R. Smith, PhD: https://click.sacredvoicerestoration.com/widget/booking/QZmTGuWzowAy0F20aTH6
